Weekly Observations

March 7, 2008
-This was the frist time we went to Apache Elementary.  We watch Houdini Chautauqua Swami Salami Performed.  It was really fun to do this because we have to do our own Chautauqua.  It was also really interestinf to watch the students reactions to the performance, they were really getting into the performance.

-We meet as a class at Apache Elementary and we all performed our Chautauqua's that we made about someone in our family.  This was also interesting to what the students because they got into the performance, and some of them even helped the performer when they were asked to.

-Today we were partnered with the students that we are going to be helping with their Chautauqua’s. The two boys that I am helping, Anthony and Jeremiah, seem to be very shy the also seem to need a lot of reassurance that whoever they picked was going to be fine. Anthony wants to do his sister, he wants to show how she gets up in the morning and how her attitude changes from when she gets up to when she eats her breakfast. Jeremiah wants to do it on his cousin, and show some of the different ways that he acts like. They both seem to be doing fine and they know what they what to do. Since next week is spring break I told them to pay attention to how their person acts and to write some things down so that they will remember what they have done.

-Today when I started working with the kids I asked them if they had noticed anything new about the person that they were doing, or if they had wanted to change the person that they were doing. Anthony didn’t change, he still wanted to do his sister and he did notice some new things about her that he didn’t know before. Jeremiah no longer wanted to do his cousin, he decided that he wanted to do his brother. I then had them both write a list of things that would describe the person that they were going to do. We then discussed the people that hey were doing and I had them tell about the person using the list that they had written. I then discussed with them how they were going to have to write a story telling about that person using these things that they wrote down about the person they are doing.

We worked on Chautauqua’s, we went into the gym and they performed them. This really helped, because it gave them a better idea of what they were doing needing to do. They were able to understand better how they were needing to write their Chautauqua’s.

April 17, 2008

We started by having them go over what they wrote from the week before, and I had them see if they need to add or change something in it. Anthony had said that he went home and performed his for his grandmother and she said that it was fine. I think that this gave him some encouragement that his Chautauqua was good and that he is on the right track. We then went into the gym so that they could act it out again.

Today we went into the gym and I recorded them and then I showed them what they had done. I then had them talk about what they liked and if there was anything that they could be change. We then went into the gym again and I recorded them and then had them watch it again to see if they liked what had done.

Today the students performed their Chautauqua’s so that they could be recorded. When we first got there we had a little time to practice, so I talked to them about some things that they should do, the one big thing was that they needed to speak up so that everyone can hear them. When they performed they did great, they did a lot better then they thought they would do.
